Summary
Piltover is the City of Progress, but its politics are less than progressive. Jayce Talis, newly promoted to Councilor, is determined to change that, but the rest of Piltover stands in his way. By rooting out corruption and fighting for better conditions in Zaun, Jayce has placed a target on his back. After an attempt on his life, Viktor decides to take Jayce’s protection into his own hands, crafting a suit of metal and steel and Hextech. There’s only one problem—Jayce has no idea who the scary robot man who keeps rescuing him is, and Viktor is determined to keep it that way.
But as the danger around Jayce increases, and the Machine Herald’s renown and infamy in Zaun and Piltover grow, can Viktor keep up this double life? Or are the rumors of the Machine Herald and Jayce just putting them in more danger?
Meanwhile, Jayce finds himself torn—so much face-to-mask contact with the Machine Herald has awakened a burgeoning desire inside him that he has long thought he held only for his partner, who has no idea of his feelings. Will Jayce be forced to choose between the best friend he ever had and his new, mysterious savior?

Summary
Something flashes in those strange eyes and Jayce shifts back, alarmed, when the mage begins to peel his robe off and get into the bed.
“What the hell are you doing?” he asks, but his traitorous body betrays him, heart rate already slowing at the prospect of Viktor—whatever version of Viktor this is—being in bed with him.
“You need to sleep,” he says simply. “And this will help.”
Well. Alright then.
It’s not like he’s wrong.
After Viktor accidentally sends Jayce to the mage's timeline, Jayce has trouble sleeping. The mage, needing him to survive long enough to get him back to his timeline, begins to share his bed in order to help him sleep, and things take a decidedly heated turn.

Summary
“I can’t…I can’t let you do that,” Jayce slurs as he grips that strange, mutated hammer, and through Salo’s eyes, Viktor watches Jayce sway, sees him flinch and then his entire form seems to glitch right before he collapses, falling to the ground with a damning thud.
Panic, foreign to him these days and strong, cuts through his body and he sees Sky turn to him with a startled look on her face out of the corner of his eye.
“Salo,” Viktor says, ignoring her questioning look. “Put the canister down and bring Jayce to me.”
Jayce, sick with infection from the wound on his leg, passes out before he can kill Salo. In this timeline, Viktor takes Jayce in. In this timeline, Jayce needs Viktor to survive.

Summary
In between the sister desert cities of Piltover and Zaun sits the Firelight Observatory, far enough away from them both for the telescope to get a clear view of the sky. Astrobiologist Jayce Talis dreams of finding new life, out among the stars. He knows it’s out there, no matter what people tell him—he’s seen it, experienced it, felt its touch. But Jayce's mind is a trap, falling into dark places in the face of the constant questioning of his work and beliefs.
And on a clear, lonely night, when the doubting words in Jayce's head are the loudest, the lilting voice of a radio host beckons him onwards and teaches him to reach for the stars.

In a decaying forest gripped by eternal autumn, two reclusive witches are the only ones who sense the world is dying. Summary
“At least something beautiful grew inside you,” Jayce muses. “He kept you here in the sunshine, full of flowers.”
He shifts, moving closer, curling his body around the kneeling corpse. “Were you scared, at the end?” He blinks, looks down as he swallows back a lump. “Did you still have hope? That you could save him, before he turned you into this—or did you know he was gone?”
Keeping his head pillowed in the moss of his counterpart’s shoulder, Jayce reaches out to gently brush the back of his knuckles against the outstretched hand. “I hope, at least…” He sighs, drawing the words up from deep in his chest like poison from a wound. It’s just a dream—he can admit this in a dream. “If I fail, do you think he’ll grow flowers for me too?”
Silence, undercut with the buzz of insects and the roar of the storm below answers him.
“Ha,” Jayce says, huffing a laugh. “Yeah, probably not.”
—
Jayce dreams of his own corpse, kneeling in defeat for eternity in the ruined future. And then, eventually, he dreams of something more.

Summary
The house breathed around him. Old wood settling, pipes groaning, the refrigerator humming its off-key song in the kitchen. Familiar sounds that had once meant comfort, family, home. Now they just emphasized how alone he was in all these rooms that used to overflow with life.
His mother's reading glasses still sat on the kitchen windowsill, folded neatly beside a coffee mug she'd never got to wash. Six months after the funeral, and Jayce couldn't bring himself to move them. Some mornings he woke up expecting to smell her cinnamon rolls baking, to hear his father's booming laugh echoing from the barn. Then reality would crash down—the silence, the emptiness, the suffocating weight of a property he had no idea how to maintain by himself.
Death isn't an ending, mi amor. It helps feed growth.
His mother used to say things like that when they'd find dead birds in the yard, making poetry out of death to ease his childhood tears.
He wondered if she'd known. If somewhere in her mind, she'd understood that her own carbon would return to the soil, would feed the grass and the worms and the beetles. Would become part of the endless cycle she'd taught him to observe with wonder instead of fear
