Boris clears his throat softly. “Sometimes, Wilhelm, our nails or our hair… they can feel like imperfections that hang off or poke into our body. We have the urge to remove them by any means necessary.”

Summary

“But I thought the whole idea was that God didn’t make mistakes?” Simon’s voice challenged him, his hand lifting Wille’s head to allow their eyes to meet, eyes watery, begging, pleading with him not to do what they both knew he was trying to.
“My parents certainly seem to think he made one with me,” Wille instinctively leaned into Simon’s touch, the tears still trickling down his cheeks wiped away by Simon’s thumb.
Simon hummed softly, “They’re wrong then,” he pressed a kiss to Wille’s hand, reciting what Wille distantly recognized as a verse from Song of Solomon, “You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you,” his voice dropped to almost a whisper, “You’re not a mistake, Wille.”

There was no room for queerness in the version of Wille’s life that his parents had demanded from him. The contract he had signed, agreeing to deny his sexuality, chained him to their faith - to their ideals of religion. Summary
Wilhelm doesn’t respond for several long, torturous seconds, his brows furrowed and lips agape in a cartoonish expression of confusion, before he finally speaks up again. “Wait, so— you want me to be your boyfriend?”
“No, I want you to pretend to be my boyfriend.”
Wilhelm rolls his eyes at the distinction, pausing to chew on the inside of his cheek, his face twisted up in thought, “For how long?”
“Long enough for both Marcus and your parents to think it’s serious. A few months at least.”
Wilhelm rests his temple against the bottoms of his palms, taking a deep breath before pulling himself back up and mumbling, “Okay,” then more confidently, “I’m in.”

The only problem? Wilhelm and Simon haven't spoken for two years, and the last time they did, Simon kissed Wilhelm, and everything between them got horribly and irrevocably awkward. But with eight weeks to spend travelling Europe in each other's company, all they've got to do now is avoid anything like that happening again. Simple. Easy.
