After thirteen years in the Burial Mounds, the Yiling Patriarch finally makes a public reappearance. Civilians are scared. Cultivators are outraged. Sect Leaders are concerned. Wei Wuxian has been too quiet, they say, and nobody knows what dark horrors the Burial Mounds may now contain.
Wei Wuxian wouldn't quite call them dark horrors, but the description wasn't too far off.
(tl;dr Wei Wuxian lives, raises a whole gaggle of demonic cultivator children, and the cultivation world panics.)

Summary
Lan Wangji spends one evening with a drunk Sizhui and finds hope.
Set a few months after Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji part ways at the end of the Untamed but before the very final scene.
Sizhui’s slightly unfocused eyes latched onto his. “Why didn’t you ask him to stay?”
Wangji’s hand froze. The Sizhui he knew would never have asked him this. His Sizhui would not have questioned his decisions, especially not about Wei Ying. Out of respect, usually, but also out of a learned instinct.
Sizhui stepped around the topic of Wei Ying as gingerly as one might through a forest buried with deity-binding nets. This was their mode of existence over the sixteen years.

Summary
A disciple rapped at Lan Xichen’s door during mao hour, surprising him in early morning meditation. “What is it?” he asked the disciple. “Did my brother return in the night?”
The disciple nodded briskly, and said, “You are requested at the infirmary, and asked to make haste.” He looked around, as if for eavesdroppers. He continued, quietly, “Hanguangjun asks to speak with you before anyone else.”
Between the horror and grief of the past few days, and the injury Lan Xichen knew Lan Wangji had sustained at Nightless City, it was pointless to ask if Hanguangjun was all right. But he was back, and clearly capable of asking for his brother. That would have to be enough.
