“What—” Mike’s mouth is moving faster than his brain— “what did I do?”
“You’re being weird! Did you ask Dustin if he was looking forward to kissing MIT girls?”
“No, but that’s — that’s different!”
“Different how?”
“I — I don’t know, ok! It just is.”
When Will moves away to go to college in New York, Mike deals with it in the best ways he can: moping, reading, weekly letters to Will, and a sexuality crisis. Cue chaos.

His Mom smiles at him with a knowing look, and Jonathan has an arch to his brow like he wants to ask more – but before either can, there’s the sound of a thud.
Will’s smile falls into his stomach. It wrenches with fear, with horror.
All three look to the entrance of the lounge, the direction of the thud.
“Shit,” says someone out of sight, just beyond the entrance, almost too soft to catch.
Will’s blood runs cold, because he knows that voice, knows the specific lilt of it.
“Mike?"
Or, Will comes out on his own terms, to the two people who truly matter - and is overheard by the one other person who means the most. In wake of the revelation, they decide to split off and take the final battle with Vecna into their own hands, all while navigating the undeniable pull that grows between them.

Summary
Will’s body is heavy as Mike drags him out of the quarry.
His lungs are burning and feel too small altogether, unable to hold any of the air he is trying to force into them. He can feel Will's hands slipping up his chest, the limp body sliding lower against his back. Mike hoists him up again, readjusting his grip. His nails dig into the other boys’ wrists a little tighter, breaking the soft and pale skin.
They are getting closer to the shore, Mike figures. His thoughts are sluggish, coming slow and hard to grasp. He only knows that he must get them out, the need to tend to Will growing, more urgent and all encompassing, entire body thrumming Will Will Will with every step he takes towards the bank.
The other boy is an increasingly grave weight on his back. Mike never wants to stop carrying it.
or: mike and will on their final mission in the upside-down. will experiences the horrors and falls off the cliff; mike, naturally, jumps after him.

"It's Valentine's Day tomorrow" Mike pulls away with a loud smacking noise sounding through the room.
If you told anybody now that Mike Wheeler used to be Valentine's Day number one hater, they would never believe you.
"Mm, indeed it is.." Will grins, threading one hand through Mike's hair, which he had grown out since they moved. Will couldn't be more grateful, the length is perfect for him to loop his finger through and twist it around like a high-schooler on the telephone.

“You’re going to get sick,” Will tries, for the umpteenth time, but it’s pointless. Mike Wheeler is stubborn and hardheaded and he never does anything halfway— not even this.

They turn to him, the paladin scrunching his brow in annoyance, and the words die on his tongue. Maybe it’s his head, maybe he really is going insane, but Mike knows what he just saw, and suddenly a couple other moments click into place in his brain– a place only for us, sleep alone tonight, we would not be wed were I truly a prince–
“Wait, are you guys dating?”
Will blinks at him, the same bemused expression from before on his face. Michael looks a little taken aback, as though this wasn’t what he was expecting, but for the first time all day, a hint of a smile flickers over his lips. “‘Dating’?” He echoes, almost challenging. “No, we are far past courtship. William and I were wed months ago.”
Somehow, out of all of the ridiculous, incredible, out-of-this-world things Mike has seen in the past couple hours, this one is by far the hardest for him to believe.
Out of all the insane things that have happened to Mike Wheeler, waking up in a parallel universe face-to-face with his own DND character just might take the cake.

“Wow,” he replied, squinting at the light. “Nobody thought to wake me?”
It happened casually after that, so casually it almost didn’t register at first. El laughed at something Lucas said, then turned toward Mike and leaned in, instinctively, easily, pressing a kiss to his lips like it was the most logical way to say good morning to him.

Waking, drowning, sideways-slipping.
A creature with three mouths, ten thousand teeth. The inky collapse of a nebula. A demo-dog with no beak.
Mike in the evening. Mike in the afterlife. Mike with sun-swollen cheeks.
Then:
“Disgusting?” Will echoes.
The clock starts to chime. The world seems to shrink.
“You're disgusting,” Mike says, definitive.
“I’ll just–” Will says, but there is no just about it, only floundering fish-feet as he struggles off the couch and to the foot of the stairs, someone behind him promising the juiciest steak you’ll ever eat!
Then:
Compared to Will’s skin, Mike's hand is nearly searing, long-knuckled, sixteen. It fizzles through Will like a lightning strike. In this moment, in the car, Will wants him.
Will always wants him – his dimples, his fine-motor skills, his tongue caught between his teeth.

Mike leans back further into the couch, head tipping against the cushions. Will watches as his curls fall away from his neck, exposing the line of his throat.
“What do I what?” Mike asks.
His words are just as clumsy, and the thought brings a pleasant warmth to Will’s stomach.
“What do you think about,” Will tries again, gesturing vaguely with his hands—hands that don’t feel entirely connected to the rest of him. “When you…” He trails off, face heating. He makes another gesture with his hands, one that he sees guys do in the hallways to gross each other out.
Mike’s mouth curves upward, slow and amused. His eyes are heavy-lidded, glassy in the lamplight.
“Jerk off?” he supplies, almost playfully.

A rewrite of S3:
The night Dustin gets back from Camp Knowhere, he brings the Party up to the highest point in Hawkins to set up Cerebro. He thought that his friends would be excited to have him back-- even if it wasn't the most entertaining to sit on a hill and talk into a radio with no response, he thought they would at least wait for him before going home. He thought it was going to be the best summer ever.
Instead, he finds himself and the one friend that didn't leave him, Will Byers, intercepting a weird Russian transmission.
And, well... if he couldn't have the best summer ever, at least he and Will would have an eventful one.
