Chapter 17
Debunking Hero Theories ft. @yume
Tenya startles when Hitoshi let out the loud sigh.
"Are you ok, Hitoshi-kun?" he asks. Hitoshi nods in reply, waving his hand as if shooing the worry away. Without giving Iida a glance, Hitoshi looks back down at his phone, scrolling through the multiple articles being pumped out by news outlets about Stain, and now, Midoriya.
That fucker.
Hitoshi goes back to his messages with Midoriya, waiting for him to reply. Hitoshi grumbles to himself.
"Stupid, posting another video. What is he thinking? That dumbass, he's going to get cancelled one day and it's because of his stupid impulse. Stupid. What if some wacko Stain follower finds his address? What an idiot!"
Hitoshi closes his phone with a scoff as no answer comes back. He leans back into the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling.
"Are you sure you are alright, Shinsou?"
Shinsou blinks, turning to face Todoroki. He didn't really expect the boy to talk to him. "I'm fine, Todoroki-kun. It's nothing."
Todoroki nods, seemingly satisfied. Hitoshi goes back to his phone.
Still. No. Reply.
Deciding to let it go, there wasn't much he could do until Midoriya goes online, Hitoshi messages his dads to check up on their location before putting his phone down to charge. With a yawn, Hitoshi settles in for a quick nap.
His heartbeat seems to be too loud, too noticeable. He crouches down behind a pillar, his hands covering his mouth, silencing his shallow breaths.
He heard a step. Heavy. Then two. Then three.
The animalistic huffs and echoes through the building. So close.
And closer.
Its soft growl sends a shiver up his spine.
It's right behind him. He knows it.
His heart won't stop pounding.
It hurts.
He takes a sharp breath in.
This is it. He's done for. He gets ready for the inevitable. For it to end.
The thing turns beside the pillar and sees him and he's screaming and the pain--
"--Shinsou!"
Hitoshi jumps up from his dream, and is met face to face with-
Midoriya?
"What-" Hitoshi starts, "-what are you doing here?"
"Your dads brought me here!" He replies, not explaining anything, really. Midoriya leans back, getting out of Hitoshi's face (thankfully) and sitting down on the chair beside his bed. "They're outside the room by the way. How are you?"
It takes Hitoshi a few seconds to process everything. No one had ever cared enough to visit him at the hospital before, bar his dads of course, so it's kind of heartwarming. Second of all-
"What were you fucking thinking uploading a video like that!" Hitoshi smacks Midoriya's head, "You and your idiotic impulsiveness!"
Midoriya has the audacity to simply smile while rubbing his head.
"I'm sorry, ok! I saw you in the video and of course I couldn't help myself-"
"-clearly-"
"-and had to make a video debunking his ideologies cause y'know they're harmful and y'know how passionate I am about holding heroes responsible-"
"-I think the whole internet knows-"
"-but the way Stain went with it is so maniacal but sounds reasonable eventhough it's not and you never know who'll see that video and think 'Oh I'm going to be a villain and purge fake heroes' like it's a good thing so I needed to put my video out as soon as possible ok!"
Hitoshi looks at him with a blank face, "Are you done?"
Midoriya nods in reply, earning a sigh from Hitoshi. "I just want to make sure that what you put out there isn't exposing you to danger", Hitoshi groans, laying back down, "You could've rambled your address and you yourself wouldn't've known."
"Hey-! Actually, you're probably right."
A cough breaks them out of their small bubble, and Hitoshi could feel his face redden with embarrassment as he remembers that they aren't alone.
Tenya opens his mouth to ask a question-
"You're Yume, aren't you?" Todoroki cuts him off, and Hitoshi is half surprised the man even knows what HeroTube is.
"Ah- yes, I wanted to ask that too", Iida tacks on.
Hitoshi watches out of the corner of his eye as Midoriya grows shy and makes eye contact with Hitoshi, as if to ask, 'Should I tell them?'. Hitoshi half-shrugs-half-nods, he trusts them enough, Tenya because he's known him for a while and Todoroki because he has good vibes and oh yeah they just went through a life-threatening situation together.
Midoriya somehow understands him because he turns back to the other two and nods, a small, "Yeah, I am. Uh, please don't tell anyone..."
Tenya shakes his head, "Of course not, I wouldn't dare. Although, people know your face, no?"
"Yeah, but surprisingly not many people recognize me in public", Midoriya says, and Hitoshi snickers to himself.
Tenya nods in understanding, "I thank you for making that video on my brother, I really appreciate it."
Midoriya squints his eyes, before they widen in amazement as the recognition sinks in and he's rambling to Tenya about his quirk and his brother.
Hitoshi watches on fondly as Midoriya terrorizes the poor guy with praise and analytics.
"Ah!" Iida cuts Midoriya off before turning to Hitoshi, "Does that mean you're Editor-kun, as Yume call him?"
Hitoshi's eyes widen (in panic) but he nods hesitantly. Iida just nods back.
"Yume." Todoroki speaks up, pulling all of their attention on to him. He didn't seem to care, "Will you do a collab with me?"
What?
"What?" Midoriya says.
"On my channel, IceSeeYou."
What.
"Sure!"

[The video starts out with the usual cork board, but now there's a person in front of it. Green fluffy hair and a t-shirt with the word 'casual sweater' on it, the popular HeroTuber was unmistakable.]
IceSeeYou (from behind the camera): Hello. My name is IceSeeYou
[A pause, Yume blushes on screen.]
Yume: And I'm Yume! Uh- Hello!
IceSeeYou: *hums* I'm sure you've seen him trending, especially recently.
[Yume pouts]
Yume: And I stand by that video!
???: Yeah, until you get murdered in a dark alley somewhere by a Stain stan. Stai-ne?... Stainiac?
IceSeeYou: Ah yes, I'm also joined by the infamous Editor-kun--
Editor-kun: It's coffecat, please-
IceSeeYou: --as Yume fans would know. Today, Yume will try to debunk my theories.
Editor-kun: While I laugh my ass off.
IceSeeYou: You are welcome to. Laugh at Yume, that is, as my theories are the best.
Yume: Uh... Sure.
IceSeeYou: Theory Debate!
[Yume pins a piece of paper to the top of the board with the words 'Theory Debate']
Yume: First theory...
[Yume goes off screen, coming back and pinning a different piece of paper to the board. It reads: Present Mic's Hair is A Minor Quirk
[Editor-kun snorts off screen, and Yume seems to be holding back a chuckle]
Yume: So! We're starting off with a mild one, Present Mic's hair is a minor quirk.
IceSeeYou: It's definitely a quirk. Have you seen that hair? It's like 2 feet tall.
[Yume pins a picture of Present Mic, another piece of paper pins beside it with the words '2 feet tall']
Yume: Is it actually 2 feet tall?
IceSeeYou: I don't know. Maybe. Everyone knows normal hair cannot stand like that.
Yume: It's probably just a lot of hair gel.
Editor-kun: So much hair gel.
IceSeeYou: Exactly, so much hair gel would be needed. How is he supposed to be ready for an emergency if he needs to ready his hair?
[Yume pins another piece of paper, 'Too much gel']
Yume: Actually, many heroes have complicated or time-consuming aspects of their hero aesthetic. Like Ingenium's armour or Thirteen's spacesuit -though the latter is more for safety reasons- and it's not that much of a problem because heroes, like other emergency services, have shifts and work times they adhere to. Of course, in a big emergency this is different, but usually when a villain shows up, the heroes on patrol are the ones who are legally responsible to do all they can.
IceSeeYou: If that's the case then his hair down should be as long, right? But no one has spotted anyone with really long blonde hair.
Yume: Could be a wig?
Editor-kun: *hisses* Ouh, don't say that.
IceSeeYou: You want to add your thoughts, Editor-kun?
Editor-kun: It's coffecat. And it's all natural, he's probably tying it up most of the time.
[Yume grabs a pen, writing something on a piece of paper before pinning it. It reads, 'Probably just very long hair']
IceSeeYou: You come to my house, you appear on my channel, and you're attacking me?
Editor-kun: Sucks to suck-- *cough*
Editor-kun: HE ELBOWED ME IN THE RIBS.
IceSeeYou: What are you talking about?
[Yume sighed, a smile playing on his lips]
[Yume startles as a piece of paper is thrown at him.]
IceSeeYou: Pin it. Now.
[Yume's face is half shocked and half terrified. He pins a picture of Ryukyu to the board, now filled with other pictures and papers like a picture of Uwabami (A Group of Conjoined Snakes with a Human Body???), Kamui Woods (Radioactive Mutated Tree!), and Pyro (Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle)]
IceSeeYou: Ryukyu is part dragon and dragons used to exist a long time ago.
[Editor-kun laughs out loud]
Yume: *sighs* Ice... I genuinely don't know what to say.
IceSeeYou: SO. You admit I win?
Yume: If I say yes can we finish the video?
IceSeeYou: Yes.
Editor-kun: Ayo what.
Yume: Then yes, I agree.
IceSeeYou: Yes.
Editor-kun: Excuse me.
