Work Text:

When TK exited the room after having his stitches redone the last person he had expected to see waiting for him was Carlos.

"Hey," he waved awkwardly as he stood up to greet. "Hey" TK echoed, "What are you doing here?" he blurted out, wincing at how that sounded. "Sorry, what I meant was I didn't expect to see you here?"

"Yeah, uh, I just wanted to make sure you were okay" TK sighed internally because how could this man be so perfect. "Well, I'm good, the nurses let me hear it for ripping my stitches so soon though" he laughed. "Guess I'll have to think twice next time before jumping into a burning bus when my stitches are still fresh"

"Or maybe just try not to get shot or run into burning things when you're not working next time" Carlos suggested. "I mean, I guess I could do that" TK hummed, pretending to think about it before breaking out into a grin when Carlos rolled his eyes. "Idiot" he muttered fondly.

They just stood there, staring awkwardly at each other for a few moments before Carlos spoke up, "Well, now that I see you're fine I should probably get out of your hair huh?" Carlos chuckled nervously, "Right" TK nodded, "I guess I'll see you around TK" Carlos smiled, albeit a bit sadly.

TK bit his lip as he watched Carlos' back, 'Are you really going to let him go?' he had some time to think about the conversation they had and everything else while they had stitched him up earlier and he was not going to lose this man without a fight.

"Carlos, wait!" TK slowly jogged up to him, mindful of his stitches. "Yeah?"

"Do you mind if you drop me off at the firehouse?" TK internally groaned at himself. Why was this so hard?

"Oh," Carlos looked surprised at the sudden ask and more than a little disappointed, but he tried to mask it. "Of course"

"And would you mind waiting for me while I talk to them for a bit? I uh, I really think we should talk" Carlos softened as TK nervously shifted. "Of course"

They arrived at the firehouse way too soon as far as TK was concerned. He nervously looked at the building— the team wasn't back yet, but he could already feel the nerves building up at the conversation he planned to have with them.

"Hey," TK looked to the other man, "It's going to be fine. Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" Carlos asked. "No," TK shook his head, "I need to do this on my own" he stared back up at the building.

"Okay," Carlos nodded in understanding, "You should probably go in before your team arrives"

"Yeah," TK agreed, "You'll be here when I finish right?"

"Yeah," Carlos smiled fondly, "I'll be right here"
