The Heart of a Home

Summary:

It's no surprise to anyone that Yoongi and Jimin are the heart of the Min home, but if you asked them, they would say it's their grandpups.

Chapter 1: Month 385

Chapter Text

Yoongi and Jimin hurried out of the kitchen with the rest of the watch party snacks they'd prepared and into the living room where all of their friends, Hajoon and his family, and Eunji and her family were spread around the furniture with the TV turned on to ABC. "Two minutes left." Hajoon informed them as he gently bounced Logan in his arms to soothe the slightly fussy three-week-old.

"Why do we have to wait two minutes?" Jason asked.

"Yeah." Jina chimed in from where she was curled up on Jungkook's lap. "Why can't we just start it now?"

Yoongi chuckled at the two six-year-olds. "You two are getting a taste of the world we grew up in before streaming." Both pups stared blankly at him. "You have to wait until its scheduled time to watch it and then you can't skip through commercials. You use that time to go to the bathroom and refill your snacks."

Jina scrunched her nose. "Who would want to do that?"

"We didn't have a choice." Jungkook said, ruffling the six-year-old alpha's hair.

"But you said you and Netflix are the same age." Jina looked up at her grandfather in confusion.

"Well yeah but back then they mailed you DVDs to watch." Jungkook explained. "It was a long time before you could just open it on the TV and pick something to watch."

Jina blinked at him for a moment. "I don't believe you."

Hailey suddenly shushed her. "Mama says Hana gomo's tv show is starting!"

They all quieted down and turned their attention to the TV where the pilot episode of The Korean Americans opened up on an image of a 10-year-old female omega who was obviously supposed to be Hana curled up on a cot in a school nurse's office while clutching her stomach. "Oh my god, the guilt from 20 years ago is coming back." Jimin muttered, putting his face in his hands as he recalled how he'd been in such a rush that morning of Hana's first heat that he'd ignored his maternal urge to double check that Hana was okay after not eating her breakfast and instead just hurried her off to school. "This is where we find out how much she resents us for this moment."

"She does not resent us." Yoongi assured Jimin, wrapping an arm around him and tugging him into his side.

Yoongi was right in that the episode didn't show any resentment their daughter was secretly harboring towards them. Rather the 30 minute episode explored Hana's struggle with having been the first in her class to reach puberty, how that affected the way her peers and teachers treated her, and how her parents' support had played the biggest role in her overcoming her anxieties and insecurities--as well as the fact that her best friends hadn't treated her any differently than they had before she'd had her first heat--along with setting up the Min family dynamics, particularly how 'disgustingly in love' Yoongi and Jimin were, in Hana's own words.

"Well, that was interesting seeing how Hana perceives us." Hoseok mused once the episode was over.

"I feel like it was pretty accurate." Taehyung mused.

"I think I should have gotten more screen time." Eunji said.

Bai raised his eyebrows at her. "You do realize it's not actually you on the TV, right?" Eunji responded by pinching the underside of his bicep.

"Be nice to Eomma." Bo said, frowning at his dad while hugging Eunji, much to the 25-year-old omega's amusement.

As everyone began to gather their things to head home--Eunji and Bai going first since they had to get their pups to bed--Seokjin snorted and looked up from where he'd immediately gotten on his phone after the show ended. "The Ask Conway Facebook group is full of people claiming this show is 'too woke' and 'not a proper representation of our community'."

Jimin scoffed. "It's a proper representation of our community."

"People don't like Hana gomo's show?" Jason asked with a pout as Hajoon tried to lead him to his room to get him ready for bed. "Why?"

"Because people are stupid." Seokjin said.

Hana had just settled in to nurse David to sleep, the toddler having been too excited after being allowed to stay up later to watch the premiere of The Korean Americans to go to bed at a decent time--when her phone started buzzing in her pajama pants pocket. She maneuvered to pull it out without upsetting David, since he was well in his overtired grouch phase, and saw that it was Minhee wanting to FaceTime. Hana quickly answered the call and the video opened to a scene of Minhee attempting to soothe her extremely fussy six-month-old pup, presumably while waiting for his bottle to finish heating up. "Looks like we're both struggling tonight." Hana chuckled as she shifted the camera to show David's cheeks that were splotchy from his own tantrum before Hana had finally gotten him settled enough to nurse.

"I think Danny's either teething or going through a sleep regression or both." Minhee said

"Just throw in the possibility that he needs to take a huge shit and you'll have the holy trinity." Hana mused. "Anyway, I'm assuming you're calling because of the show?"

"Uh, hell yeah!" Minhee confirmed. "Dude, your mind is genius."

Hana laughed. "Why, thank you."

"And you portrayed me in such an awesome light." Minhee continued. "Like you love and cherish me."

"Have you considered that's because I do love and cherish you?" Hana pointed out.

As Minhee proceeded to perform one of her typical dramatic monologues--which seemed to work to soothe Danny as the six-month-old omega was now smiling up at his father--Jaehyun entered David's room. "Julie's finally asleep." He said before seemingly hearing Minhee's voice coming from Hana's phone speaker. "That Minnie?" He asked, walking around to stand behind the recliner they still had in David's room due to him still nursing to sleep most nights. "Hey, Minnie!" Jaehyun waved at the phone as Hana tilted it so Minhee could see him too. "You coming to Christmas this year?"

"I am!" Minhee smiled brightly. "Joseph was finally able to get enough time off for us to come down and stay for a while and let him formally meet everyone."

"We can't wait to meet him in person!" Hana exclaimed softly, still being conscientious of the toddler starting to doze off on her breast. "The FaceTime double dates are great but it's not quite the same."

"We'll definitely pawn the pups off on our parents and go out one night." Minhee stated.
