Summary
Wei Wuxian's life changes for the worst one evening when he is sexually assaulted at knife-point on his way home by Wen Chao, a former classmate of his. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot ignore or escape from the pain. It doesn't help that he faces adversity left and right due to what happened, and it is all he can do to keep his composure.
Thankfully, he has the help and support of his family, his fiancé Lan Wangji, his friends, and many others. With that, and the boundless love he is surrounded with, he is eventually able to go down the path of healing.

The most obvious targets, as far as Junko could tell, were the people left behind.
Left behind by the cultivation world, who claimed falsely to be oh so righteous. Mocked by them, vilified or hunted down or used and thrown out, from the demonic cultivators Jiang Wanyin tortures and kills, to the prostitutes and their children Jin Guangshan used then tossed, either willingly or by force, to the men like Wen Ning and Nie Huaisang who screamed for vengeance. Left behind, and utterly and totally betrayed.
This whole thing will be a piece of cake, she thought.

Wen Ning tries to smile at him, his face stiff as it pulls at the corners. “I’m sure,” he says. “It’s okay, Wei-gongzi. I want to go.”

It has been fourteen years since Wen Ning died.
At first, Wen Ning had felt only confusion. It had been like a waking dream, except the dream had been dark and empty and filled with voices that whispered nothing-words to him; an eternity of being born and dying over and over again until his memories had spun away and left him blank. A story that had been unwritten.
And then, the fog cleared. The world coalesced into its true shape, and Wen Ning looked around and found that, with the confusion burned away, he felt something new.
