The chain between their wrists clinked softly every time one of them shifted. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days straight, that metallic whisper followed them like a third presence in the room.
Kanukei had long since stopped trying to strangle Saparata with it; the links were too heavy and the cuffs too tight. All that was left was this constant, maddening proximity.
Saparata hated him.
Kanukei hated him more.
And yet, in the dark hours of the night when everyone was asleep, when even the guards stopped pacing the hallway, Kanukei found himself cataloguing every detail he was forced to endure up close.
The way Saparata’s throat moved when he swallowed, the faint rosey and an airy-note scent that clung to his skin, the small, unconscious hitch in his breathing whenever Kanukei leaned too close on purpose.

"Truce? You swear you're not going to trip me, or put a pole in between us or-"
"I swear!" Tommy insists, "It's like you don't trust me." Only to break the truce a moment later, putting himself and Siren between a stop sign and feeling as they both slam into each other with an unguarded force.
Siren is deathly silent as Tommy gets up and places himself on the other side of the stop sign. "I swear once I get out of here, I'm sending the whole hero committee after your ass," Wilbur says but he feels the lack of weight and promise behind his threats, an ounce of panic flooring through his veins as he doesn't believe himself.
God forbid he feels an ounce of attachment, but not for his sworn enemy, not for a kid that gets under his skin so easily.
