    There’s still blood dried under Oda’s nails he no longer is trying to clean off of himself. He’s shed the stained to ruins shirt and washed the metallic stench off of his hands and up his forearms, but there’s only so much he can do. Only so much he wants to do; something about removing every trace of Dazai’s blood from him feels wrong. It’ll erase the reality of tonight, and while still sitting in this limbo—the boss himself came to retrieve Dazai’s limp body to see if he could even attempt to tend to him—Oda doesn’t think he can bear to wash away the remaining bits of Dazai off of him.

    Dazai attempts again and Oda reflects on what their relationship is.

    "Are you okay?"

    The question, said by a rough and preoccupied voice belonging to a person that's surely just woken up by the ringtone never fails to make Dazai's breath hitch, his heart flutter.

    The boy takes a deep breath to control himself, eyes still unseeing, lost in the depths of his mind.

    "Yes."

    His answer is feeble, the voice missing the characteristic tone anybody he's ever talked to is unable to forget.

    "Are you sure?"

    Dazai doesn't answer that.

    "Where are you?"

    "I hurt it."

    The windstorm ends. They open their eyes—first Pomni, then Jax—to the sight of a building wider than a city block and taller than they can see, made of nothing but pale concrete. Pomni looks around, checking if there’s more that has appeared, but the void is still there, just as vast, just as bright, and just as empty as it was a blink ago. They approach the entrance and stop a few feet from its threshold. The inside is bathed in shadow and they can’t see what awaits them there but, lacking other options, they step in.
