“Stop it.” Grian whispered, and like a light switch, everything stopped. His body stabilized, his head cleared, and Grian was going crazy.

Tubbo’s- Tubbo’s here, or at least a version of him is, and goddammit Tommy missed him so fucking much. He hovers his mouse over the stream, biting his lip nervously, before taking the leap and joining it.
And fuck, Tubbo looks so similar that Tommy thinks he might cry again.
He doesn’t have horns, doesn’t have the long hair that covers half his face, doesn’t have the fucking awful scars that Tommy still hates himself for having let happen – but it’s still unmistakably him. His smile’s the same, he laughs the same – if a little brighter and less reserved – he brushes his hair back the same way and furrows his brows in concentration the same way and groans lightly in frustration the same way and-
It’s not him, but it’s still Tubbo, and Tommy can find himself loving this version of him already.

“...If I can fly?” Grian asks, confused. His heart is beating fast.
The boy shakes his head violently, taking a lurching step forward, now only a few feet away. Something about his eyes almost seems familiar, but the thought is fleeting. The knife looks sharp. The child is crying, slow tears that barely have an effect on his voice.
“No,” the kid says forcefully. “How do I know you’re not a zombie?”

Summary
The first time that Mumbo experienced an auction was also the first time that he remembered questioning everything that he knew.
Everyone reaches a point in their childhood where they realise that their parents are people who aren’t always right. Usually however, this doesn’t include a shattering realisation that you don’t actually know anything about the world.
The bubble that Mumbo grew up in had black tinted windows that prevented him from seeing anything other than what was right in front of him. And with no reason to suspect otherwise, how was he to know that there was a whole world out there.
Okay, maybe that was a little extreme, but the general point still stood. His entire world view had just collapsed and now, at the grand old age of ten, he was finding out that life wasn’t supposed to be a constant charade.
Unfortunately, Mumbo was not a natural to the art of acting.
