Even with Lucy at his side, his leg keeps threatening to buckle, to take them both down. At some point, he’d nearly collapsed, and she’d coaxed him into using each other for support as they pushed on. Neither of them is well alert, much less ready for a fight, but Dogmeat’s keeping her eyes peeled, falling behind and trailing ahead as she deems necessary, guiding them down safer paths when she smells danger. The Legion is far behind them, now.They haven’t said much since he dragged the girl from the camp, but her thank you still echoes in his ears.

The light coming from the screen of Lucy’s Pip-Boy is black beneath the crimson sirens. It blends with the shadows cast across her face. She looks anxious.
A part of him wishes that he had the humanity left to feel the same.
They’re in over their heads.
He should’ve left her at Jameson’s when they dropped off Dogmeat. Shouldn’t have let her talk him into this fool’s errand. They should’ve waited. Should have come up with a better plan. Something safer.

He was afraid she’d never ask. He takes his saddlebag and fishes out his personal bottle of Buffout. “Do more drugs.”
She’s pouting again. “Maybe you should just go on ahead without me. I’ll find a safe spot where I can curl up and be sickly for a few days, and then I’ll catch up with you in Vegas. How does that sound?”
It sounds fucking stupid. “Every radroach in the area will smell yer bile and eat you alive while you’re disoriented.”
Her brow furrows. “Well, you certainly paint quite the picture.”
“I’m tellin’ ya, Sweetheart, the drugs are the only way to go. At least for now. Worry ‘bout gettin’ clean after we find yer daddy.”

AKA, after leaving the ncr camp, cooper and lucy get attacked by raiders and while they have the advantage, they drag lucy away leaving cooper with no choice but to go on another hunt for her...he finds her in an unexpected manner and gets her to safety and doesn't anticipate the way she wants to return the favour
