Summary
Pirates spend their lives hunting down treasure, but the most valuable treasure of all isn’t gold or jewels - it’s mermaid scales. After the majority of Captain Kim Hongjoong’s crew is decimated by disease, he has no choice but to turn to the hunting of mermaids to keep himself and his remaining men afloat. When a new pirate joins them, however, he struggles to maintain his control over his crew, his ship, and his emotions.
It’s only a matter of time until Hongjoong’s notorious reputation falls apart, but little does he know that darker plans are at play beneath the surface.
Mermaids can walk on land if they choose, but doing so is practically unheard of due to the risks. Seonghwa is the only living mermaid of his kind left, and after a life of hiding from ruthless hunters, he hatches a plan for revenge. He poses as a pirate and steps ashore for the first time in his life, all with the intent to destroy a certain captain, his crew, and his ship from the inside.
It’s only a matter of time until Seonghwa’s true identity is revealed, but he plans to destroy them all before it comes to that.

The others call it favoritism, but Seonghwa calls it survival. If the most dangerous man in the city wants to spoil him, he isn’t stupid enough to refuse.
At least that’s what he tells them.
Because sometimes, when Hongjoong’s eyes follow him across the stage, when he fucks Seonghwa, breaks him like he is his, he lets himself imagine it’s something else. Something that means more than what they have been doing for the past two and half years in the confines of that private suite.

Seonghwa is a struggling college student working at a café. That is until he meets a stranger in an alleyway who gives him an opportunity he cannot refuse.
What Seonghwa doesn't expect is to get tangled with the dangerous leader of Busan's most powerful organized crime syndicate in the process.

The warning was there, they had time to make it out. When the power went out without a moment’s notice followed by the water disappearing shortly after, Seonghwa knew that his screaming instincts weren’t to be ignored like his roommate told him. The portable radio they used only screamed static except for the occasional alarming words that no one believed because it was April 1st and it was all supposedly a big prank.
That’s all it was, right? Some big prank? That’s what Seonghwa’s roommate told him at least, but look where his roommate was now.
Or: Seonghwa attempts to survive during a zombie apocalypse and ends up meeting six loyal men and one incredibly cold-hearted leader to keep him company as they try to make it out alive.

“So, Hwang Hyunjin, my new favorite suicide driver,” Jeongin grins again, leans forward against the dashboard like he’s trying to sell the idea of himself to Hyunjin. Pretty red thong and hideous leather jorts. A back dip that’s questionably worth living for, “I’m Yang Jeongin and my life isn’t worth living much. Let me be in your car. Pretty please?”
He bats his eyelashes again. It’s unfitting of him. Hyunjin’s endeared.
