Sometimes he would jerk awake in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, gasping for breath; other times, his eyes would snap open and he would be gripping his blankets with trembling hands, as if his body wanted to reach out and save Shadow.
Today, he woke up feeling completely numb all over, his muzzle drenched from fresh tears. The morning sun was just barely rising over the horizon, streaks of light peeking through the circular window on the ceiling and bathing the floorboards of the attic in warm orange.
How cruel was it that mornings were so beautiful when Shadow couldn’t be here to see it?

Summary
Maybe it was breaking his alpha instincts, letting another alpha fuck him like he did. Maybe he was unwittingly letting Ghost bitch him, but- it didn't feel like that. Not when Soap was fucking him just as often, just as harshly, just as thoroughly.
It felt more like a slow discovery of something he hadn’t let himself explore before, finding something new to enjoy. It felt especially true when he found out how much he loved being on his knees for Ghost, in any way, in any context.

Summary
They keep talking. It’s soothing, in a way Ghost didn’t expect. Johnny chatters sort of incessantly, in a way that, coming from anyone else, would usually make Ghost want to blow their brains out. Or his own. But now, the quiet conversation reminds him that Johnny is still breathing, that he’s still moving. Even if the conversation is mostly one-sided.
Except for the fact that it… isn’t. Ghost finds himself responding. Every time Johnny tells him that he’s found more rope, found a bottle, found oil, anything and everything he can get his hands on to throw together some makeshift weapon, Ghost murmurs a reward.
“Good, Johnny,” he says quietly, and he can hear the grin on the sergeant’s face without even seeing him. It’s… something. He isn’t quite sure what, yet. Isn’t quite sure if he should be trying to work out why Johnny seems so desperate for Ghost’s approval when he’s bleeding through the streets of Las Almas in the middle of the night, anyway. Besides, even if it’s nothing (he is sure that it isn’t nothing, at this point) who is he to deny the whims of a man on death’s doorstep? It’s no hardship. Not even slightly.
