Whumptober 2023 Day 30: Borrowed Clothing/Bridal Carry/Not much longer
Edward expected to be belittled and teased, but Mustang made no such comments as he took his first steps forward, and Edward instinctively gripped to the man’s chest to keep from falling, head against his cheek. Stubble was rough on his temple and Ed felt his cheeks flush with embarrassment, but Mustang was silent beyond a heaving breath as he maneuvered Ed.
It’s…weird. Being held. Ed hasn’t been held in so long, not since his mother died and probably not so closely since Alphonse was born, and the feeling it causes in his chest is warm and off and strangely longing. The touch, the affection, though not really freely given, ignites a long stuffed down, childish want for touch. It soothes something in his chest and calms his breathing, like a balm against the torrent in his mind.
Or
Broken automail and painful nerves means Ed can’t walk, and chilly weather makes being carried all that more humiliated. Especially when it’s the bastard Colonel.

Whumptober 2023 Day 20: Blanket/Found Family/You will regret touching them
He sits on the bed in their small roomette, one bed for them both and a table that Ed has stolen to research and write, his body is plagued by aches and throbbing in his head, a high fever that saps the heat from his body. He was warned of this, rambled words from a doctor, and it’s nothing he hasn’t dealt with, but exhaustion is wrought and it’s like Ishval once again, a painful reminder of the wounds he carried and the infections that robbed many soldiers of life.
Edward yawns, and Mustang allows himself to be pulled from the emerging memories to focus on the boy. Eyes are dark and lidded, shoulders sagged and cheek smushed against a metal hand. He gives himself a shake and glances to the clock. The only source of light, a small lamp that illuminates the room with a honey glow, makes it hardly manageable to read the time that ticks on the clock face.
“Bedtime, Edward,” Mustang croaks, a clip in his voice as he shivers. “Nearly 1.”
Or
A train ride back from a scrabble, Mustang is fevered and cold, and Edward is sleepy and teasing. To his surprise, Edward can be surprisingly sweet and affectionate.

There is a laugh. Hawkeye recognizes it, vile and thick with tortuous joy and something crackles and hits the floor. It’s the man who punched her in the jaw and snapped her tooth, and the man with cruel devices and desires in his hands.
“C'mon, Flame Alchemist,” he jibes, nearly sing song and overly pleased. “Spill the beans already. I’m just dying to know.”
Mustang hacks, wet and likely filled with blood. Hawkeye has little idea of what has been done to him, though few clues have slipped through. “Fuck off,” he growls, and even though his voice is battered with pain, there is venom in his voice. “You’re wasting your time.”
“Be a gentleman, Mustang,” the man sneers, and footsteps sound and a gasp is loud and shuddered. Fabric rustles and Hawkeye strains her ears. “You tell me or I go back to the girl.”
Or
Flame Alchemy is a well kept secret, and only one can practice it. However, there will always be those who seek power, and Hawkeye must come to the terms of what lengths people will go to for carnage.

Whumptober 2023 Day 12: Red/Insomnia/I'm up, I'm up!
He doesn’t care if people snooze in the office. He’s worked his own late, late nights and taken a nap or two on the couches in his office. Havoc has tucked his arms underneath his head and slept through lunches and shifts, Fuery crashing at a table with a bent neck and snores, and even Breda takes a moment or two every once in a while when days get long to rest. It doesn’t bother him. Lives are busy and paperwork is horrendous and sometimes a good nap is a needed recharge.
But Edward has been sleeping in the office for days. Mustang doesn’t think he’s seen him do a lick of necessary paperwork or turned in a report on practically anything the superior officer has allowed him to research. It’s enormously irritating and slightly rude, Mustang feels, that the boy comes in and simply sleeps away instead of supporting the team like everyone else. No one else will wake him either.
Or
Ed's been dozing, and it's pissing Mustang off. He choses to ignore the telltale signs until Ed comes barging in on the verge of a breakdown.
