The use of his full name was deliberate. Not a question, not a tease. A claim. It landed in Gustave’s gut like a stone, heavy and cold, followed by the slow bloom of heat at his throat where the bruises still ached.

Bren wakes up in a dank Cell in Vergesson, the fading touch of his cell-mate on his temple and a scream of grief and denial on his lips. Fairies are beings said to be of pure Arcana, full of potential. Their wings shed a powder used to enhance a spell beyond the caster's ability. The creatures themselves are used as an Arcane Focus to negate use of material components and enhance spells focused through them.
They are beautiful creatures, surprisingly humanoid, elf-like, and considered as intelligent as the average house-pet. Bren had seen these before, had worked with them in the past.
