It's hard to keep a straight face at that.
Clark's lips curve into a fond smile as he chuckles and shakes his head, leaning back against his seat, a hand rubbing across the nape of his neck.
"Yeah. Maybe I have. The coffee's great here. And the company is really nice." Clark offers a smile as he meets Bruce's eyes, holding his gaze for a beat too long before returning it to his pie.
He doesn't miss the way Bruce's heart rate stutters at his comment.

Or, Clark Kent can't do one night stands, and Bruce is just his usual human disaster.(This story officially ends at Chapter 5.

After getting beat to Hell Batman is still refusing help until Clark offers an olive branch for just one night. To pretend just for a moment he isn't The Batman but rather Bruce Wayne. Can Batman let go for just a night?
This is my excuse to beat Bruce up so Clark can put him back together.

or: bruce and clark have been fighting monsters as batman and superman for over two days. they're hungry, filthy, and exhausted— so, bruce thinks it only makes sense to invite clark over to the manor to eat, take a bath together, and sleep.

Batman was never meant for a partner anyways, he was meant to fight in the bloody, dirty shadows and flee at the sight of dawn. He had allowed himself to be vulnerable, and even worse, to drag Superman along with him. To taint the man of steel with his scarred body and mind. But no more.
Bruce would put an end to his useless existence.
