I made my way down the drive, handkerchief pressed discreetly to my nose, toward the small car that had become both my companion and tormentor in these months; the car that promised me the world’s distance while dragging me unresisting through its motions. As I placed a hand on the door handle, I heard a familiar voice call out to me.
“Nick!”
I turned, startled, and there he was: Gatsby himself, immaculate even at such an early hour. He was clad in loose trousers and a collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, yet despite the casual air of his clothes, he managed to look as elegant as the night I first encountered him. He came down the marble steps of his mansion with a speed and certainty that betrayed his alarm, coming to my side as if honing in on a beacon.
“You can’t possibly be going to work,” he declared, as though the very idea were obscene.
Nick is sick. Gatsby insists on looking after him.

Summary
Dream is not coping well post-imprisonment, after he has finally set things to order otherwise following the Vortex. There are unexciting times with migraines, dissociation, and panic attacks galore. Also copious references to sand and glass. Almost like a leitmotif / metaphor, even.
Title from "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel. (Opinion hours: 1964 acoustic version on Wednesday Morning, 3 AM album is the best version. You cannot change my mind.)
The head pains, the sparkling lights, the nausea - they come back. Again. And again. He gets better at hiding the signs, cursing whatever has caused this. He gets better at pretending he's not constantly behind a barrier of glass, that he's free, that he's fine. Dream is constantly behind glass. Stained glass, bloody glass, rounded glass, broken glass, all muffling the world around him, filling his head with cotton. Sometimes he wonders if it was easier being in the glass cage. At least then he didn't have to pretend.

He's doing his best. Then he finds his neighbor's cat Molly loose in the hallway, and returning the wayward cat turns into something more than just neighbors in the block of flats.

So tired he believed he'd passed the threshold of tired, and had tread into unforeseen territory, in which his body felt like it was ready to collapse, and his mind moved a million miles a minute, but every thought felt shallow and bloated. It felt horrible, sickly. Like waking up after a fight, body bruised, mind numb. But worse, since he couldn't rest yet. It wasn't over yet. He still needed to write."

Summary
He’s reminded, suddenly, of Marta: guilty only of a damaged trellis and a few amateur theatrics. Blanc had known from the beginning that she thought she was guilty, but hadn’t assured her of her innocence until checkmate. He did the same to Jud last night. Would he do the same again if it meant solving a case and bringing a murderer down, or bringing a wronged person justice? He knows he would, but it is not an easy thought.
In the immidiate aftermath of Martha's confession Jud has a small breakdown. Blanc helps him through it. Written as a companion piece for "Matthew 6:34."

The water runs brown for a while after he gets in. Jud isn’t one for long showers, but he figured that he had earned this with how these past few days had gone. After all, there would be a noticeable decrease in the church’s water bill if anything. He pushes his head back under the water at the thought, rubbing his hands roughly across his face.
