It was a strange feeling, this deep desire to protect Dazai. She remembers what she used to think when she saw him for the first time. She looked at that odd and dislocated boy and saw nothing but death, a concept so strange that it attracted and repelled Yosano simultaneously.
But when she looked into his eyes one more time, she realized that the feeling she had for him was neither one of repulsion nor one of hatred.
It was like looking in a mirror, a reflection of her younger self. How could she possibly hate him when they were both made of the same stuff?It really didn't matter anymore.
He would be fine, after all, he was hers to love and protect.

A boca dele se contorceu em algo tão falso que até ele se assustou, ele só poderia descrever aquilo como o fantasma do que deveria ser um sorriso, mas era quebrado, feio, cheio de bordas irregulares e cortantes assim como a que estava em suas mãos segundos atrás. Dazai sabia que tipo de imagem ele pintava, a de um fantasma cético, que não acreditava em nada, nem no presente, nem no futuro, nem em si mesmo, a imagem de um cadáver vivo.
Ele realmente era um covarde.

It was no secret that Atsushi was shy.
While his mentee had his moments of boldness and extroverted outbursts, it was in his nature to be a timid little thing. Even if the poor kid didn’t go through all the neglect and abuse at the orphanage, Dazai doubted that he would be the type to randomly walk up to a stranger and strike a conversation outside of a case on the subway.
Dazai bobbed his head over to his left. The boy was hunched over his desk, scribbling away at some report from that theft case two weeks ago that Dazai had slipped in between his usual assignments. Yet, despite being with the agency for a couple of months, Atsushi was still bunching his shoulders together and curling his legs up underneath the seat of his dedicated desk chair. Almost as if he was making himself as small as possible to not get in anyone’s way.
And while shyness could be very sweet, it was about time that his protégé was challenged to approach his life differently.
