Percy didn’t mean to lie. Truly, he didn’t. He wished he could tell everyone the truth. It would be less of a burden for him, and for everyone else. But he couldn’t. If he told them the truth, they would see how broken he is. They would see him the way he saw himself. He didn’t want that.
Part of him hoped that if he told the lies enough, they would eventually come true, like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Unfortunately for Percy, prophecies never seemed to go the way he wanted them to.

Percy Jackson desperately needs therapy and other mental health help, but, unfortunately, that would require him to actually acknowledge the problem first, and he is NOT going to do that. And it's also Thanksgiving, by the way.

Everyone always expects the worst from him when he's clearly trying to be better, trying to think more openly so he can be accepted, doing things to be seen. The Blue Kingdom has always been a sham; they're all fake and full of lies.
4C can't believe he's allowed himself to stay there for over a year, even building them a place to return. He helped rebuild the Blue Kingdom. A thousand good deeds, one mistake, and then 4C becomes the worst in there, how joyful.
If they want to put another bounty on his head, 4C will make sure it's hard to get. He won't be naive; he'll embody the worst version they expect of 4C.
