“Mike?” He doesn’t even mean to ask. “What are you doing?”
There’s a long exhale behind him and then he hears a breath hitch.
“It’s my problem and you told me to deal with it,” Mike breathes. “So, I’m dealing with it.” Will wishes so badly he had something to physically throw at him. But he doesn’t, so he remains frozen there with his eyes closed and his nails digging into the palms of his hands. “That’s what you said, isn’t it?”
Mike seriously needs therapy, he thinks.
“I’m going to kick your ass if your hand’s on your dick right now,” Will protests, although nothing about his tone is even the slightest bit threatening.
“You’ll have to turn around to find out.”

Will and Mike are college roommates and Will slowly finds out Mike's been keeping a not-so-little secret from him that may, or may not, change their dynamic entirely.

But it wasn’t a monster that came out of the trees. It was a person. A boy.
Mike froze.
Then he was spotted, and the boy stopped in his tracks; with skillful movements, he quickly slung the rifle off his shoulder and pointed it at Mike’s chest. Mike raised his hands while trying to keep most of his weight on his left leg.
“Whoa. Hey,” Mike said, his eyes wide as he stared at the tip of the rifle. “Just hold on. I’m not—I’m not going to hurt you.”
Or: A crawl gone wrong left Mike stranded in the Upside Down. Hurt and alone, Mike stumbles upon someone everyone told him was dead.

Will bent over, adjusting his lamp so it illuminated the tattooed portion of skin. He looked at it for a moment before taking Mike gently by the wrist, startling him, and drew Mike’s arm closer to his face. Mike sat still, watching the other man examine the tattoo. He resisted the urge to jerk away when Will ran a finger lightly over the ink and clicked his tongue. Will moved his fingers from the tattoo to bare skin, pressing down on it, almost testing it. What was he looking for? Mike’s fingers twitched at the contact and he focused on watching the other man’s face.

Summary
The party has since gone their separate ways, with all roads leading far away from Hawkins.
Except for Mike. For two years, he's stewed in his childhood bedroom, tapping uselessly away at his dusty typewriter. Will has been the only one who kept in touch, sending him letters, paired with the occasional call.
Mike has clung to this- clung to him.
At the start of summer break, he flies down to New York City, a CD filled with words he couldn't bear to say himself stuffed in his luggage.
Will has changed. Mike hasn't.
At least that's what they believe.
OR,
Mike visits Will over summer break, and they spend a week living together in a dorm.

Summary
““Will-” Mike whispered, years of sadness and loss and a million other things Will couldn’t understand splaying across his face. Will gently pulled away his hand, something tearing deep inside him as he did. It was the hardest thing to do, to leave that warmth behind.
“I’m a little tired now,” he said, voice thick with unshed tears, not daring to look at Mike, knowing that if he did, nothing would stop him from doing something they would both regret. He walked back across the room and sat on the edge of the bed. For a moment Mike just stood where they’d been, still and unmoving. Will had to use every shred of energy he had left not to get up and go to him. Mike’s shoulders dipped in resignation as he slowly turned around. The darkness masked his expression, but the silence was enough.
For them, Will supposed, silence had always been enough. It would always have to be.”Or: After Nevada, things are not the same. Mike is confusing, though this is not exactly new. Still, there is an earnestness; an honesty that wasn’t there before. Electric glances, small confessions: nothing feels as simple as it used to. Timing, it seems, has never been on Will's side. Or... has it?

Summary
All is swell after the “earthquake” hit Hawkins. The kids are back at school, the military haunts the streets, the Byers live with the Wheelers, the team just recently started up with the crawls, and Will and Mike have been getting closer. But all that changes when a car pulls up in front of Hawkins High.
Suddenly, Will is whisked away for legal reasons, and those back in Hawkins have to work tirelessly to get him back. Meanwhile, Will’s life gets turned upside down, and he is thrusted into the custody of his first ever bully: Lonnie Byers.
Follow the group as they struggle with complex feelings, mental and legal battles, and the story of Will’s heartbreaking past being rewritten in present day (or for us, the 1980’s).Takes place somewhere in the 18 month time gap before season 5, maybe closer to season 4.

"Will!" Mike crashes to the ground next to him. Gets a good look at him.
Wills eyes are dazed slightly. They latch on to Mike anyways and he seems to sag with relief. The blood from Wills nose falls onto his lip. Into his mouth.
"That was- that was amazing!" Mike brings his sleeve up and wipes the blood away. He opens his arms and lets Will collapse against him, head resting on Mikes chest and Mike doesn't even think twice about how intimate it should feel.
