The first thing Stephanie thinks to herself, when she hears about this, is whether her foot has caught on the stairs leading to her bedroom - causing her to miss a step. It would explain the lurching feeling in her stomach.

“Dick?” Bruce voice echoes from the room over. “Is that you?”
“Yeah,” Jason hums, pitching his voice slightly higher to match Dick’s.
He doesn’t even need to try to mask his Crime Alley drawl; he’s had enough practice of that over time, after all those years in stiff-collared dress shirts, speaking to rich gala attendees and acting as if he wasn’t filthier than the bottom of their dress shoes. Back when he was still Bruce's son.
After a run-in with a sorcerer leaves Bruce temporarily blind, Jason takes advantage of this to visit the manor whilst pretending to be Dick.

“Who is this?” he asked, his voice light for the purposes of playing Bruce Wayne. Just a man answering his calls on his phone, as one did.
“B?” Jason’s voice. Bruce closed his eyes for a second in relief. Still alive.
“Jason, what’s happened? Are you okay?”
He was met with more breathing, now getting more rapid. Panic attack.
“Where are you?” his voice was low now, almost Batman. Jason responded as though he were a sleeper agent, and the Batman tones were his code.
“Some gym near the south end of Chinatown. Just off Carter Street.”
“I’m on my way.”
He was running before Jason had time to respond.
OR
Jason needs Bruce, and Bruce finally, finally makes it on time.

He ascends as quickly as his meager athleticism will allow and when he reaches the second floor landing his ears immediately twitch, catching the sound of soft music.
It’s… lovely. And Essek finds himself caught, like a fish on a lure, and drawn in towards the source.
He finds it a couple of yards down from the staircase, tucked away in a lamplit alcove; an upright piano, the top of it crowded with books, and a certain red-headed wizard at the bench, his freckled fingers dancing across the keys.
The wizards—and Beau—watch a meteor shower whilst Ruidus is at its zenith in the hills outside Zadash. Some surprises are had and wishes are made.

Summary
It was still there when he made his way back to his assigned patch. And still there once he’d pulled all the low, creeping weeds from between the thick, woody stems of the lavender bushes.
“If you are dead, you realize I will pull up this weed,” he muttered to it on his fifth pass.
It, naturally, did not reply, though whether due to a lack of investment in its chosen home or a lack of vital signs was unclear.
In the aftermath of Aeor, in the Clay Family gardens, Essek encounters, speaks to, and has a mild existential crisis over, a bee.

Summary
If Essek were to kill Caleb, he would do it with a spell.
None of the intimate agony of feeling the last flutters of his heart with his own skin. He cannot even afford himself the painful honesty of knowing that if he were to do it, it would be impersonal and practiced, something Essek has done to many before and will do to many others. This knowledge is not enough to stop him imagining it.
In the months following the events of Cognouza and the Somnovem, Essek fails to come to terms with the fact that he is a dangerous man.
