Summary
Jaskier knew that things weren’t exactly looking good for him. All he had done was innocently wander through the forest, strumming at his lute and humming a tune he liked but would never remember. But good things didn’t last with Jaskier; they never had and presumably never would. The knife at Jaskier’s throat was just as good an indicator as any that his quiet pace through the woods was, in fact, one of the more unfortunate ideas he’d allowed into existence.
Where Jaskier finds himself in an unfortunate situation with a bandit, but luckily, Geralt saves him. Unluckily, they now have to talk about what Geralt did to Jaskier up on the mountain that one fateful day. -

"If Todd skipped out on too many family meals, Grayson would be marching over to one of his safe houses and dragging him to the manor. If Brown or Cain was gone on a mission for too long, the family would make time for them to relax and Pennyworth would make their favorite meals to entice them to dinner. If Damian was too far into his head and feeling frustrated they would give him enough space that he didn't feel coddled but also open that door for him and eventually force him out of his own head.
But Drake... He hadn't come to family dinner for three months now, Todd never made it to the two month mark. Drake hasn't come back to the manor after a mission for anything longer than a sitrep and debrief. (Of which Drake consistently lied about and avoided medical attention every night and not once did anyone call him on it). And Drake was always in his own head and no one seemed to bother to pull him out. No one coddled, no open doors, no forcing him to float, just... letting him drown."

“Serenity,” she said, ignoring her father, who seemed to be wanting to prompt her like a conductor. “We are honoured to have you here.”
Maia had very little experience with the specific social mortifications of an embarrassing family— his own having simply chosen to forget he existed— and it wouldn’t have been fair to make a judgement, but there was already an undeniable tinge of the ridiculous to the entire affair.(Awkward dinners are part and parcel of the Emperor's role... but the Ceredada really are spectacularly embarrassing.)

For a woman who was so worried you disliked us, we are certainly giving you plenty of reasons, in our attempts to diffuse the situation. Damnation.” She sat back, then said, “Ooh, Goëlar,” and sat forwards again. “You have the set! And well-read, we dare say, how impressive…”
The woman's mind was like a scanning bird of prey, Csevet thought exhaustedly as she tottered out of the chair to look at his bookshelf. Pinned one topic and only let it go when it was in its death throes, then leapt instantly off to murder another.(csevet and csethiro have three main things in common: pakh'palar, popular literature, and purpose. not necessarily in that order.)
