"If Todd skipped out on too many family meals, Grayson would be marching over to one of his safe houses and dragging him to the manor. If Brown or Cain was gone on a mission for too long, the family would make time for them to relax and Pennyworth would make their favorite meals to entice them to dinner. If Damian was too far into his head and feeling frustrated they would give him enough space that he didn't feel coddled but also open that door for him and eventually force him out of his own head.
But Drake... He hadn't come to family dinner for three months now, Todd never made it to the two month mark. Drake hasn't come back to the manor after a mission for anything longer than a sitrep and debrief. (Of which Drake consistently lied about and avoided medical attention every night and not once did anyone call him on it). And Drake was always in his own head and no one seemed to bother to pull him out. No one coddled, no open doors, no forcing him to float, just... letting him drown."

Maia had very little experience with the specific social mortifications of an embarrassing family— his own having simply chosen to forget he existed— and it wouldn’t have been fair to make a judgement, but there was already an undeniable tinge of the ridiculous to the entire affair.(Awkward dinners are part and parcel of the Emperor's role... but the Ceredada really are spectacularly embarrassing.)

Damnation.” She sat back, then said, “Ooh, Goëlar,” and sat forwards again. “You have the set! And well-read, we dare say, how impressive…”
The woman's mind was like a scanning bird of prey, Csevet thought exhaustedly as she tottered out of the chair to look at his bookshelf. Pinned one topic and only let it go when it was in its death throes, then leapt instantly off to murder another.(csevet and csethiro have three main things in common: pakh'palar, popular literature, and purpose. not necessarily in that order.)

Dess doesn't remember much of the fight itself, admittedly. She'd been crossfading since mid-afternoon in preparation for the party, and drinking straight liquor since Dad brought out the hors d’oeuvres. It filters through the haze in pieces.
Isn't it enough that she came back? Why can't that be enough for them? They keep looking at her like they're expecting to see someone that died six years ago. Dess doesn't know how to break it to them that they're never getting her back.

“Yes.” Kris pressed her hands against their chest. They smiled in a way that failed to be reassuring. Each desperate breath shuddering through their lungs confirmed everything Susie didn't want to know. “S’fine. It’s okay.”
Kris burned like a charred pan straight out of the oven, or an oil fire stoked by liquor. Susie reeled away. “You—you were trying to set me up,” Susie accused, trying to edge words around the chasm opening in her gut. “You were trying to get me to hit you.”
Kris wants Susie to hurt them. They need her to hurt them. Susie isn't as on board with the idea as they are.

“...For a,” The Watcher hunched into itself and checked over its shoulder. Which was completely unnecessary, considering Watchers can always see in all directions, “...Player.”
The last word was whispered so quietly that Xander had to strain to hear it, and even then he questioned if he’d heard it right.
“You’re a Player?” Xander asked incredulously, part insulted that it would try to fool him and part horrified that that was a possibility in the first place.

Scar has never been this cold. Not in the desert. It wasn’t right. Grian had enough heat to spare for both of them, and it was too much. All of Scar’s kinetic energy had found its way under Grian’s skin in tremors, leaving Scar’s body completely still. He knew he shouldn’t ask- he wouldn’t get the answer he wanted- but the words swelled between the blood on his tongue and fell out of his bruised and cracking lips.
“Scar?”
Scar did not answer.
Two times where Scar and Grian are forced to mourn alone, and the one time they aren't.

Logan didn’t notice that his room was shrinking. It’s easy to miss a few inches, but now it’s noticeable. A few feet were missing in a room that was supposed to be 20 feet square. Logan could no longer deny that something was wrong.
Though, being the logical side, Logan knew exactly what was happening. He is being phased out. After the latest video, where he was ignored and pushed aside by Patton, Roman, and Janus. To Thomas once again ignoring him to pursue Nico instead. It’s only logical that Thomas’ subconscious finally takes the hint and decides that Logan isn’t needed anymore.

Remus' grin almost drops, eyebrow twitching.
