Oscar should’ve known.
Oscar should’ve known, from the very first second he saw him. Perhaps he was shocked, after not seeing Lando for the last 15 years, some details flew over his head, but everything was so clear now…Lando’s plump lips and his perfect cupid’s bow, his vivid ocean eyes and doll eyelashes, his perfectly curled hair, the way his honeyed skin glistened under the evening sun, or his heart shaped smile when he laughed. It was all so clear … but Oscar couldn’t make sense out of his friend’s ethereal beauty up until now.
Lando is standing right in front of him, pure white wings displayed gracefully on his back, delicate feathers slowly falling on their living room’s floor. Oscar stares in awe, and Lando stares back, confused.
“You— you can see me ?”
or in which cupid lacks love, and Oscar’s got the heart eyes.

Summary
On Oscar’s tenth birthday he got his soul mark.
As his fingers traced the raised edges of the inked scar on his shoulder he could clearly make out the letter L followed by a Z, although the second letter was tilted on its axis a little. Oscar thought its lopsidedness was cool. It gave his mark character.

Regulus turned his arm around a few times, as if the Mark would suddenly appear. He even checked his other forearm, questioning his sanity the entire time.
There was nothing.
He didn’t understand. He could clearly remember getting the Mark. It had been so painful he’d thought he was going to die, but he could remember it.
The Mark didn’t take and he was going to have to try again. And again… and again.

His mind raced, confusion flooding him as he processed the words. Red flag? “Why? What happened?”
The answer came immediately. sounding more urgent. "We’ll explain in a minute."
"Who’s the driver?" His chest felt tight, his breath shallow as dread began to settle in. Something wasn’t right and he knew that deep inside of him.
There was a long pause before the reply came, short. "Just bring the car back, Oscar."

Summary
Steve doesn’t realize it until July, until after everything has happened, but he’s known Billy Hargrove for years. He’s not sure how he figures it out. It’s sometime after stripping out of his destroyed Scoops uniform, but before scrubbing the blood off his face, before he digs into those bruises just hard enough to hurt. It’s not shocking or startling. It doesn’t knock him off his feet.

The red light turns green and Steve pulls through it. He’s looking straight ahead, out into the snow and the cold night air when he says, “He doesn’t remember.”
He hears more than sees El shrug again. “No,” she says finally. “But he will.”

Steve remembers something important, but just barely. He has questions. In December, he gets to ask them. Billy--in the same concrete room the doctors have had him in since July--has questions too.
