Summary
So, Viktor sleeps only three hours through no fault of his own. But if he had slept more, he would have arrived at the lab earlier. Or he would have seen the sliver of light underneath the door. Or he would have heard the footsteps inside.
Decidedly not human footsteps.
But because Viktor failed to sleep properly last night, he arrives at the lab later than usual, later than Jayce, and does not notice these things.
Hence his surprise when he opens the door to see Jayce playing with a dog.

“Shh,” Bob whispers again. “Just relax, John.”
He does. He can’t help it. He’s fucking melting into the bed like Bob’s touch is magic, all of his thoughts dissipating in the sensation.
“That’s it,” Bob continues. His touch grows firmer – thumb rubbing circles into the knots in John’s shoulder. “Just relax. You’re doing good.”
The whimper that comes out of John’s mouth is entirely involuntary and incredibly embarrassing.
“Just like that,” Bob murmurs as if John hasn’t made a noise. “I’ve got you. You’re doing so good.”
It’s – he’s – John’s fucking burning up inside. He feels so warm. Doesn’t know whether to leave – to flee from whatever the fuck Bob’s words are doing to him, injury be damned – or to press back into the touch, to lean into the comfort and soak up these scraps he’s being offered.
(Five times John discovers his praise kink, and the one time he acts on it.)

This is the first crack: three months and seven days in, Jinx has not slept in days and wakes herself up by screaming, loud and tortured and angry and hurt and scared, and the next thing she remembers is Silco cradling her in his arms and whispering some mindless story about mystical sea creatures.
Or, Jinx is trying very hard to not care about her new father figure (it doesn't go very well), and Silco unabashedly loves his daughter and will do all that he can to convince her of that.
