Summary
On their own, sometimes they can be reasoned with, the Baron had warned Donatello, the night he’d asked to see the surface. But when they gather… He’d looked away, his eyes dark. There’s a reason we live in a hidden city.
(or: Donatello has lived in the Hidden City for fourteen years. And then, after a series of events involving three rogue mutants, glowing mosquitos, and an explosion, he suddenly doesn't anymore.)

Summary
Donnie had always lived life on manual.
It was hard having to direct himself all the time. Hard not to be like everyone else, who were so smooth, so natural. Able to move on automatic autopilot all the time.
But not Donnie.
He’d been the last one to learn to run, because his dumb little toddler brain couldn’t understand the mechanics of it. He’d had to watch, had to repeat, had to replicate over and over until he didn’t have to think about momentum and gravity and the nuance of balance anymore. Until the lack of instinct was replaced with hard won muscle memory.
All his life it had been the same way. From kata’s to skateboards to triple flips, he was always the last to learn, even on the rare occasions he was the first to try. It wasn’t like coding, inputting a string of instruction and having his body obey. He had to keep working at it, keep inputing the same directions over and over again until his body finally, finally learned.
