Then he was brought into this concrete room with a group of hybrids both talking to him and not at the same time. He didn’t understand.
“Hello? What’s going on, Tommy?” The blonde man, a bird hybrid with dark wings, was asking.
He shuddered. He didn’t want to talk, he didn’t know if he even could. His trainer always said ‘words are for people, not hybrids.’ So he never talked and never bothered to learn to understand many words either.
There was no need for talking when all he ever needed to do was win. When all that was asked of him was to kill or be killed.

Tommy is a raccoon hybrid, abused in a gladiator arena where hybrids fight to the death.
When he is rescued by Phil and Techno, they quickly realize he doesn’t know how to speak.
Eventually, Tommy learns he won’t be hurt anymore and finally opens up to them.

Techno turned to glance over his shoulder, and Siren was there too, keeping watch from the street.
Tommy barely held back a sob of relief to see them. They would take care of him, bring him back to their ridiculously large apartment. He could sleep on their ridiculously comfortable couch that absolutely engulfed him on movie nights.
At some point Techno had stopped talking. Prime, everything still hurt and ached and all he wanted was to go to sleep.
AKA: Tommy is an exhausted assistant/vigilante and he runs into his bosses on patrol one night. Maybe the worst night to run into his bosses.

When Techno woke, awareness came slowly. He was groggy, his mind and body unused for far too long.
There wasn't any rush. Still, waking always had him thinking about Phil. About how thankful he was able to stop. To soak in the silence of his mind that normal sleep couldn't ever hope to replicate; the voices melting into a void that was unable to reach him.
He snuffled into the fabric beside him, one of Phil's shirts among many in the nest, and found himself smiling. It wasn't the same one he remembered when he fell asleep. Phil must have rotated them at some point.

Or Techno hibernates after he takes over the world with Phil on SMPEarth and Phil gives him a spa day when he wakes up.

Phil cackles as he takes to the air, great wings only narrowly avoiding Techno’s head as he ducks. Phil soars upwards, a blur of black and blue and blond, looping overhead in the pale light of the Antarctic sun, shining like all the riches in the world wished they could. Techno has to squint just to make out his shape.
“Brace yourself!” he hears from above, the only warning he gets before a weight crashes onto his shoulder, wicked talons gripping well worn leather. Phil is still laughing, breathless and mirthful, shifting to best balance on Techno’s arm and shoulder.

The kid was head-and-shoulders taller than Phil, with bright dark eyes and a little scar on his snout and clothes just like he’d been given, plain and practical, nothing like the hoglin leather that piglins liked to wear at all. He said something in Piglin that sounded surprised, maybe, and kind of annoyed, and pointed at the vent.

He too is covered in metal, though where Techno displays medals, Fit has what can only be decorative armour. He wears the red of his nation well, stark against the natural blues of the Empire.
“Emperors,” he says, bowing his head before taking his place at the table.
“Your Majesty,” Techno replies. He’s always been better at the official talking part of these things than Phil. He, for one, doesn’t swear like a drunken sailor.
