Seemingly unaware of his patron’s change in demeanor, the man shrugged. “Places I’ve worked, we get a lot of war vets. Paranoid types. They don’t seem to have a lot of credits to their name, either.”
It was a deflection as much as Cal’s own statement had been, but he relaxed all the same. Whatever he might know or suspect, the bartender clearly wasn’t angling for a fight. Besides, he supposed he fit the description of ‘paranoid war vet’.
Not that he could tell the man that, of course.
