“I mean, yeah I love Will. He’s one of my best friends. I love Dustin and Lucas too but I would still never do any of this for them.”
“No. Mike.. . do you love love Will?” Mike paused at the words. Yeah, he knew what she meant the first time. Deflecting and hoping she wouldn't prod apparently had stopped working. Mike couldn’t meet her eyes. He looked almost ashamed. But nonetheless, he nodded. Just barely.

The entire night turned into a bluffing fail. With Will slumped against his elbow as he made dumb and useless moves from there out, Max began laughing out loud every time Dustin yelled at Will, saying how stupid his calls were, and Lucas was passed out on Max’s lap. Jane was completely out of it, picking the pink and yellow nail polish off of her finger nails as she huffs, completely bored and ready to go home to finally get her rest.
And Mike?
Mike was furious. They all knew they were fed up with Will’s behavior, but especially Mike. They knew specifically from where Mike went tense and quiet. And Will knew—and unfortunately roommates like Dustin and Max knew from when they stayed nights with Mike and Will, Mike took his anger out in..other ways, then yelling and arguing.

Her gaze dropped to Mike’s hand on Will’s wrist. “Don’t hurt Papa!” she begged desperately.
For a split moment, Will didn’t understand, the thought so far-fetched, improbable, and ridiculous that it didn’t even cross his mind, but then the realization hit him like a bucket of cold water being dumped over his head.
She thought Mike was going to hit him.
Mike must’ve understood it at the same time, because his hand fell away, quick, like he’d been burned.
.........or: When Will and Mike’s four-year-old daughter walks in on an argument, she mistakes raised voices and hands for something far worse - she thinks Mike is going to hurt Will.

“Noon,” Max corrected, as if she hadn’t only woken up thirty minutes before him.
“Wow,” he replied, squinting at the light. “Nobody thought to wake me?”
It happened casually after that, so casually it almost didn’t register at first. El laughed at something Lucas said, then turned toward Mike and leaned in, instinctively, easily, pressing a kiss to his lips like it was the most logical way to say good morning to him.

or: Mike and Will have been together for a year and a half when El comes back. The problem is, El assumes she and Mike are still together. The bigger problem is that Mike doesn’t realize Will thinks he might choose her.
