The true enigma, though, is the adopted Kaito, who little do they know is far closer to their story than they ever could have guessed, and desperately in need of their help….

Bobby looked at him then, brows furrowed. “But we only talked for, what? Five, ten minutes?”
“Yeah.”
“And that was the best part of your night?”
“Yeah…” He didn’t know why he said it. Maybe it was the alcohol, or maybe it was the understanding calm that radiated off Bobby’s relaxed features. Either way, Lightning sucked in a breath. “Of my whole Christmas that year, actually.”
“So… when you said it wasn’t one of your best Christmases… Man,” Bobby breathed, shaking his head in disbelief, “you really meant it.”
During a party, Lightning finds out that he had unknowingly met Bobby long before they became friends. As he finds himself telling Bobby things he hasn't even told Doc yet, he realizes Bobby is much more than a passing acquaintance.

Biting back a groan, Lightning shifted until he caught sight of his friend.
Cal was out cold, lying in a crumpled heap a few feet away.
What was supposed to be a fun, friendly race to the Charlotte Motor Speedway goes horribly wrong when Cal and Lightning’s car breaks down on the side of the road. Things only go downhill from there…

Summary
Keith wakes up with chains wrapped around his wrist and ankles. Something is on his face, but it takes a minute to figure out what it is, but when he does, he feels like his heart stops. It’s a muzzle strapped to his face, the edges cutting into his skin. He’s been stripped down to the bottom half of his flight suit, his armor completely gone.
He’s alone in the dark, but he can hear someone talking in the distance, and it sounds like it’s through a door. Keith feels like he can barely breathe as the muzzle sits heavily on his face. Tears prick his eyes. Eventually the door opens, flooding the room with light. Keith flinches back, the tears finally falling down his face from how tightly he closes his eyes.

Surely Shiro was lying. If he found out that Keith was a Galra failure who got himself kicked out of the Garrison immediately after Shiro went missing, he would hate him. That was the only reaction that made sense. Why wouldn’t he hate Keith?
‘Because you’re my little brother, and I love you,’ Shiro said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.”
Amidst a war against the Galra, Keith finds himself struggling with the notion that he could be one of the very people they’re fighting against. Shiro manages to help without knowing, and maybe Keith isn’t as alone as he thinks.

Despite the constant churning of rumors and accusations surrounding Keith, Senior Officer Takashi Shirogane offers to mentor him, showing the boy kindness and patience. Slowly, Keith is drawn out of his defensive shell. Slowly, he learns to trust Shiro.
But time is running out.
Tonight, the Garrison will be infiltrated by a group of anti-space militants and Shiro is at the top of their hit list. Unfortunately for them, Keith isn’t even on their radar. And there is no way in hell he is letting his friend die tonight.

Pidge recoiled and sputtered, “Keith, what the f-” She was cut off by Shiro’s bellowing laughter from the observatory deck.
With his straight face unchanged, Keith lowered his left hand with the stopwatch and lifted his right hand, fisted.
Pidge actually sighed with so much relief, “OH. You mean fistbump! Right.” She slapped her forehead to remove the very very wrong image her imagination drew for her, “Holy shit, Keith, we need to work on that but yeah sure, I’d be honoured to officiate your physical contact program whatever.”

“Hey, Shiro I’m taking the bike out!” He called, dumping his bag in his room and tearing off his uniform.
“Do your homework first!” Shiro yelled from the kitchen and Keith silently cursed. He slipped on his black t-shirt, tossing the Garrison’s orange disaster of clothing on the ground.
“I don’t have any.” He lied, almost falling over in an effort to get his jeans on faster. After wrestling for a couple minutes to get them on he laid on the ground, staring at the ceiling. The door opened and Shiro looked down at him blankly.
“You don’t have any.” He repeated, voice completely deadpanned. Keith frowned. He liked to think he was a pretty good liar, but Shiro didn’t look even the slightest bit convinced. Did people in the Garrison have homework everyday or something? “Keith, I’m your fucking teacher. I assigned the homework.”
Oh. Right.
Or
Keith is experiencing the great tragedy of having your teacher also be your guardian. Also, the kid that sits next to him is so annoying.
