Mikaela struggles with the duality of his nature. Once the prey, now he is the predator, and it screws up his brain a bit. How can one ever come to terms with being both the victim and the monster? Of course he scares himself. Mika knows first-hand how horrible vampires can be. He knows what it’s like to have your blood sucked and wonder if this is the day you die. He’s given the disgusted stares and the terrified ones, too. He’s had loved ones taken…and taken again. He knows, and he’d rid the world of one less red-eyed monster if he could. But he can’t. Because humans turned his Yuu-chan into a monster as well, and he’d sooner burn in the sun than leave him alone in the world like he had to before. He has a choice this time, and he’s staying by his side.

Wirt's soul is caught in the lantern in place of the Beast. In the normal world, Wirt's relationship with his family is improving, and he and Sara have been spending time with each other, but the Unknown is calling him back.
How long can Wirt play pretend? He won't be able to ignore its pull for long. And what will give out first his body or his mind?
The Unknown is set off-kilter without its Beast. The residents are relieved not to be in constant terror, but soon enough something will fill the gap. Who can guess if that being will be benevolent or something worse. Wirt has gained the attention of a power who likely does not have his best interests at heart. Wirt will be the new Beast. No matter how he squirms and struggles.
