He taught you to fight the way he knew how. But as one of Two-Face’s men, Willis would have been shot in the head if he ran from a fight. He couldn't afford to not hold his ground. You are not my hired gun.” The look Bruce gave Jason was almost affectionate. “You are my son. And when you go into any battle, your primary objective will always be safety before anything else. Robin will always have backup.”

Jason doesn’t talk to his dad anymore.
He doesn’t know why it only just hits him. He’s in the horror section of his favorite book store downtown. It’s his lunch break, and the shift lead likes him, so he gets a few extra minutes to window shop. He’d seen the new Stephen Graham Jones in the display case, an ominous orange red, a record needle stretching across a bleak expanse, and he’d gone in, listening to the far off chime of the door bell.
He’s just got it in his hands, the feel of the velvet dust jacket on his fingertips, the smell of warm pastry from the instore cafe, when it hits him.
Jason doesn’t talk to his dad anymore, and he hasn’t really talked to him in years.

And Jason, with the same shadowed eyes as the rest of them, doesn’t argue. His eyelids flutter closed, his weight slumps in relaxation. His slow exhale ruffles couch-lint when he murmurs, “Stay?”

And then Tim’s hands are falling to seize the handrests of the Batchair, spinning it around. Bent over, his face, furious and openly agonized, is right in front of Damian's.
“What,” Tim says, voice dangerous, shaking in an effort to stay calm. “Are you doing.”

He's staring at a metallic ceiling. There's a quiet beeping from somewhere to his right—the papery blanket beneath him rustles as he turns his head from left to right, squinting against the bright fluorescence. His lungs are tight, the air sterile. He swallows, wincing at the dryness of his throat and the slight taste of copper on his tongue. Despite the aching of his muscles, he sits up.
Something is very wrong, he's just... not sure what.

Summary
Batman dies saving Red Hood.
Jason Todd doesn't agree with this outcome and wishes for more time.
He wakes up, thirteen and earnest, in his childhood bedroom in Wayne Manor. Bruce is knocking at his door in an attempt to rouse him. Jason remembers this day. They're going to a Gotham Knights game later in the afternoon. Bruce's blood is still warm and criminal on his hands.
‘“Have you ever thought about that?” Jason murmurs. “Being rich in time?”
He feels Bruce’s fingers carding through his hair again. “It’s the most precious commodity of all. It’s priceless. It’s the one thing that I wish I had more of. You don’t have to worry about that, Jay. You’re fifteen. You have your whole life ahead of you.”’
Or, the one where being Robin never gave Jason magic—he was a little magic all along. Jason decides to do things a little differently the second time around. Wherein time casts a spell on them, and Bruce discovers the drag path Jason left in his wake.

On hindsight, Jason probably should have heeded his injuries from the previous night and stayed in. Maybe he should have swallowed his pride and asked for some Bat-assistance. But 20/20 was stupid, he was already in this situation and didn’t want to think of mistakes and regrets. Besides, the Bats and him were tenuous allies at best, nothing more. No reason for them to answer his call for help.

On the fourth day, it becomes clear that Joe is organizing something—more muscle than usual, a few more Black Mask affiliates than there should be. The few glimpses of Joe that Dick gets, he’s on his phone, speaking rapidly and gesturing emphatically.
On the fifth day, everything is quiet. No one comes, no one goes.
On the sixth day, Tim calls Dick: they’re not sure where Jason is. And yeah, maybe that’s just normal, and they’re not panicking yet. But they’re not sure where he is. And they’re about to start looking.
And on the seventh day, Bruce shows up at his door with Jason standing next to him, pale and hacking out a cough, putting too much weight on Bruce’s shoulder, and says: “I need to ask you a favor.”

Dick is supposed to be on a boring stakeout assignment. Jason complicates that.

“Yeah?” Bucky asked. He loosened his grip on Peter’s shoulder, but didn’t take his hand away.
“My back still hurts sometimes,” Peter explained quietly. “But that might be because of the swinging. Hard to find a strong enough chiropractor to crack it, you know? Maybe… maybe two thousand tons of concrete would do it, though.” Bucky leveled his gaze at the kid. Peter looked back at him, swallowing hard.
“Let’s call that Plan B, okay?” Bucky suggested.
“Yeah, okay,” Peter mumbled.

Or, Peter gets caught in the collapse of a parking garage with a (mildly) concussed Bucky Barnes, and has a nice get-to-know-you sesh with our favorite super soldier while waiting for Tony to find a safe way get them out. Super chill, right? Everything's fine. Oh- and he's been impaled by two rods of rebar and can't move without risking bleeding out. That... complicates things.
